Bud,
Thank you for not mentioning that Court Martial when I defended Ski from Hqs Supply after he and Bolino were weeks late coming back from R&R. When they were acquitted at the Appelant level, I remember the S1 Officer chewing me out for what he called the "Biggest Miscarriage of Justice" he had ever seen.

Guys,
I too am a firm believer in a proper and thorough investigative process. After leaving the Corps, I served our nation as an FBI Special Agent and conducted numerous criminal investigations over my 32+ years in the Bureau. Investigations can both clear and convict suspects, and my investigations went both ways. The news media is not the place to try anyone, even though the press wants it that way. Let the facts come out, and the truth will be known. Please continue to have faith in our Corps, as we all deal with this very difficult time in the Corps' history. Our guys and gals have done a marvelous job in both Afghanistan and Iraq, and I shout out my pride and support of this wonderful "new breed," as they protect our freedom. Semper Fi! - "Bud" Paepcke, Bn. Legal Officer, Hdqtrs Co & Platoon Ldr, Charley Co (1966 - 1967).

Just wanted to weigh in on this, I was questioned by CID over a stolen 45 pistol, I am sure they will get this right! the young Marine who had to take the photos is in the next town over from us, well it put him over the top, he is having severe problems, legal and emotional, I wish the folk out there in television land knew about Military Justice, there is no such thing as Bail, so these Marines are going to spend time in the Brig, and we all remember Pendelton is a Red Line Brig. To Dick and other Brother Marines watching this blog:
Thank you very much Dick, for your well considered reply.
I basically agree with you too.
At some point we're just going to have to hush, and let the investigation roll.
This provision of a blog is very wonderful, in and of itself. Yet like other print type media, there is plenty of room for possible misunderstandings as we all process the statements we make through our own personal filters.
So I believe that if we were all sitting in the same room together, over say a beer and cigar, so to speak, that we would find that we're all much more on the same page with each other than we might otherwise believe.
Just a thought, Brother Marine.

Bruce,
I understand your fears and those stated by Augie and others and agree
with your saying that "Evil prevails where ever good men fail to stand up."
But, be sure you stand up for the right thing. At the moment, silence is
in order until the investigation is published and the mere mention of My
Lai in your comment could be jumped upon my the fickle media as proof that
an offense has been committed. The Marine Corps is one of the last truly
honorable institutions in our country. Be careful not to tarnish that
image with insinuations that, in this case, it is not capable of handling
the job.
SF,
Dick
